Welcome to Fabric Hair Studio — a thoughtfully run, community-rooted salon in SE Portland where care, craft, and connection come first.

I opened Fabric with the goal of creating a salon where artists feel supported, respected, and set up for long-term success. This industry isn’t easy and it takes constant learning, creativity, resilience and I believe stylists do their best work when they feel encouraged and invested in, both professionally and personally.

If you’re looking for a place that values professionalism, individuality, and genuine connection, I’d love to start a conversation.

Julie Howes, Owner

Our Approach

Fabric Hair Studio is built on care, consistency, and craftsmanship. We are an inclusive, welcoming space for all genders and identities, and we value respect, professionalism, and genuine connection for both clients and the artists behind the chair.

We believe hair is a natural fiber, much like fabric, and deserves expert care, intention, and respect. Great hair starts with thoughtful consultations, a supportive team environment, and a shared commitment to continued education and growth.

Life at Fabric is calm, collaborative, and intentionally paced. We prioritize clear communication, thoughtful scheduling, and a professional atmosphere where stylists can focus on their craft without unnecessary pressure or competition.

Our goal is to create a space where artists can build long-term careers, feel proud of their work, and consistently deliver hair that feels natural, personalized, and authentic to each client.

Our Values

Authenticity: We value honesty, individuality, and real connection. We build trust by showing up as ourselves and creating space for clients and coworkers to do the same.

Community: We’re committed to fostering a welcoming, inclusive space for all genders and identities, where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported both behind the chair and beyond it.

Sustainability: We take a mindful approach to our work, our business, and our growth. From the products we use to how we show up for one another, we believe in continuous improvement that’s thoughtful, responsible, and long-term.

Care and Kindness: We believe great work happens in a supportive environment. Collaboration, respect, and generosity are central to how we treat our clients and each other every day.

Ways to Join Fabric

We offer a couple of thoughtful ways for hairstylists and barbers to join our studio, always with an emphasis on finding the right fit for both the artist and Fabric Hair Studio.

Commission Stylist

For stylists who are growing their clientele and looking for structure and support, whether you’re new to Portland, fresh out of school, or ready for more consistency behind the chair.

Growth + Support - Continued education, business guidance, and studio marketing help you build confidence and grow your clientele.

At Fabric, commission stylists receive both technical and business support, including thoughtful scheduling and guidance around client experience and retention.

Independent Stylist

For established artists with an existing clientele who want the freedom of running their own business within a professional, community-minded studio.

Independent stylists enjoy working in a well-run, welcoming space alongside like-minded professionals who care about their craft, their clients, and their work environment.

Connect with Us

If Fabric Hair Studio sounds like a place where you’d feel at home, we’d love to hear from you.

Every stylist’s path looks a little different, and we’re happy to start a conversation and explore what might be a good fit whether you’re interested in a commission role or an independent setup.

You can apply using the form below or reach out with a bit about yourself and what you’re looking for. We review every submission thoughtfully and will follow up if it feels like a potential fit.
